- Funeral homes are required to accept third-party merchandise; caskets, urns, and cremation jewelry are all protected by the FTC Funeral Rule
- ALWAYS check with your cemetery prior to purchasing an urn. Many have size and material requirements that you need to consider prior to making a purchase. It is your responsibility to make sure that what you are purchasing can be used where you want to use it.
- Cremation jewelry, like any piece of jewelry, is delicate. It can be lost, stolen, or broken. It is always a good idea to retain a small portion of the cremated remains should you accidentally lose your piece. Also, the jewelry should be sealed after the cremated remains are placed inside and the piece should be inspected periodically to ensure that piece is sealed.
- Urns, even though they are of high quality, are not indestructible. A dropped urn can break or dent, so care should be taken when handling or transporting. Be careful when selecting where it will be stored or displayed to minimize the potential for damage.
